maui. that's what we always said when we would ask each other that question.
we went to maui in 2010, for our late honeymoon. we stayed at a resort, but most of the time we were venturing out to where the locals businesses and stores were and chatted with people as much as we could. at one point, we talked with a lovely lady at a local maui children's bookstore. she was one of the many volunteers taking turns looking after the store to help keep it open in the midst of an economic downturn. she was really into sustainability and protecting local way of life. we also met a pineapple fruitstand vendor. his story? he came to maui on a business trip in 1980, fell in love, sent in his resignation letter via snail mail and never looked back.
for the longest time, we looked at places and jobs in maui, hoping that maybe we could start a life there. i think we really would've moved if there wasn't such a strict policy in bringing in pets from the mainland.
so for now our maui dream has been neatly tucked away. instead we like to watch hawaii life on hgtv to make ourselves feel better. :) starting life here in virginia doesn't seem so bad {until we hear of snowstorms - like the one we're getting tonight/tomorrow}. but here's to dreaming of sunshine.
