we found a creek and stayed a while..

hello & happy memorial day!

yesterday, me, yangkyu and piri took a little drive over to arlington national cemetery where many of our veterans and soldiers lay rest. we didn't stay for too long because it was so hot and piri had to stop every few steps to take refuge under a shade. afterwards we went over to the shirlington dog park and found a creek just below it and cooled off in the water as the sun began to set.

today we are taking it slow and easy. so far it's mostly been about naps and more naps and we'll probably swing by the pool a little later and have a mini bbq on our balcony.

just wanted to drop in quickly to wish everyone a wonderful monday.

ps - a little reminder of what memorial day is really about. thinking of all our service women and men, immigrants and canines.

in the kitchen: tomato & basil pesto pasta.

i don't think i will ever get to the level of cynthia over at two red bowls in terms of cooking and food styling/photography {seriously guys. if you hop on over you won't know whether you are drooling over her food or her photography}, but she certainly has pushed me to try playing around. i really didn't know what to do for this picture, but i had some tomatoes and basil left over and kinda scattered them around. hmm... perhaps next time i do this it'll be better thought out!

in any case, i had come across this recipe a few weeks ago and had wanted to try it out. i made some minor changes to it - used canned tomatoes instead of roasted red bell peppers, pan fried my chicken instead of using rotisserie and since trader joe's had run out of penne pasta by the time i made it over, i instead bought fusilli. the resulting dish tasted slightly bland {but then again i like things a bit on the saltier side}, but it was good! i will definitely try it out again using roasted red bell peppers.

i won't repeat the ingredients and the step-by-step here, but if you are interested, take a look over here.

happy eating!

now playing: songs for a summery spring day.

i thought we could use some tunes for a summery-like spring day. plus yangkyu is working from home today, which means i get to bother him by putting these songs on repeat. he loves it when i do that. .. .. {i'm being sarcastic. thought i'd note it just in case it didn't come across clearly through the computer/phone screens}.

01 // hey, boy! hey, girl! - louis prima & keely smith
02 // french navy - camera obscura
03 // on top of the world - imagine dragons
04 // i want you back {itunes session} - colbie caillat
05 // all i want is you {live} - tristan prettyman
06 // shoo fly pie and apple pan dowdy - kim keyes
07 // blister in the sun - nouvelle vague
08 // i'll take you there - the staple singers

"accio chicken!", cried piri potter.

i mentioned here how i was in the hunt for big round frames. i purchased the one on the wish list but unfortunately i'm not sure if i like it too much {plus there is a strong chemical smell which makes it hard to wear}.

but recently someone on instagram mentioned tekten vintage and boy was i surprised when i hopped on over there. so many cute frames! i especially like this one {annette} and this one {jaimee}.

perhaps i may just find a way to counter piri potter's accio spells!
