November 4, 2013

we stepped into a bob ross painting over the weekend.

the weather was beautiful over the weekend and we were able to steal ourselves away for a few hours and pack our little hatchback for a drive to shenandoah national park this past saturday. it was perfect timing because the leaves were a gorgeous yellow, red, orange and brown. it literally felt like we stepped into a bob ross painting - you know with the happy little clouds, bushes and trees.

we drove about 22 miles of the 105-mile skyline drive and stopped at different overlooks {we love doing this. sort of reminded us of when we went on the road to hana in maui. of course minus all the beautiful waterfalls}. it was really breathtaking. at one point it was raining golden leaves. the sight was just really incredible.

during our car ride back home we started planning out what we need to get done for november and december and got really excited. from picking out thanksgiving recipes, finding our ornament of the year {we buy one new one each year}, getting our tree, baking holiday cookies and watching a christmas carol at ford's theatre we can't wait for the happiest time of year to roll around.
^^ that's the dog that gave piri a head boop. ^^
^^ this was the spot with the beautiful golden leaves that fell and looked like it was literally raining golden leaves. i'm not a big mountain person even though i've spent so much of my childhood in the woods. but it's sights like these that really take my breath away. ^^
^^ this has become sort of our classic family shot. i like capturing our feet. ^^
^^ you know. he's the love of my life. and he has the whole sky to himself. ^^
^^ he seemed a little tired this day. we have to take things a little slowly now that he's a bit older. but we don't mind one bit. ^^
^^ we clearly need a bit more practice to do these jumping shots. ^^
^^ oh the places we've been. thanks little hatchback for another great adventure. ^^

  6. Beautiful pictures. I have to agree that this was the first weekend where I started to get excited for winter and the holidays. And I love your tradition with a new ornament each year. Rick and I try to do something similar, but some years we forget :( I guess we just need to get more organized.

  7. Ah your adventure looked wonderful, got to love fall, this was one of the things I missed when living on the west coast the cold bright days. You do not have these in Seattle. It is either cold and raining (8-9) months or warm and dry (3-4) months but even when the sun does come out in winter which is rare roughly once or twice a month it goes up the upper 50s so really does not seem like winter. They have 2 seasons there the rainy season and the dry season.

  13. What a wonderful mini road trip! So beautiful! You found the leaves at just the right time! We also encountered these same sort of beautiful foliage views on our drive to New Hampshire this weekend, but to a little disappointment, a lot of the trees up there were already bare! :( It's okay, it was a good half and half :)
