i am not sure how i feel about this piece. actually just the color blue. i had wanted yellow but i wasn't sure if the letters would show clearly. for now it's resting on top of our mantle. i love that i have a mantle to put things on. and i can't wait until the holidays to hang our stockings and use our fireplace. speaking of fireplaces, i can't stand that green marble funk that is going on there and we've put "fireplace update" as one of the things we'd like to tackle in the future... and that folks is how you go off on a tangent.
for the art piece, i picked up the vinyl letters, canvas, paint brush and paint over at michaels. the diy is from a beautiful mess.

I like it, it's cute :)) Super idea xx
ReplyDeletethanks :)
DeleteIt turned out well! The blue makes it pop. Definitely show us what you do with the fireplace.
ReplyDeletei like the pop effect too. and yes! the fireplace makeover. god help us that it'll actually happen!
DeleteI really like it. You're right - the letters would not have shown as clearly had you chosen yellow.
ReplyDeleteone of the many cons of yellow! boo :)
DeleteVery nice handmade homedecor/art Jane c; The blue is really catchy!
ReplyDeleteI want to send you some welcome home gifts to you guys :c Xx
thank you! and oh my goodness. you are so so sweet! that would be the most special thing! :)
DeleteSuch a lovely DIY piece, Jane:) And you know...I'm not really a fan of green but I'm digging that fireplace.
ReplyDeletethanks. now that i'm thinking.. maybe i should've made the color of the canvas green.. :)
DeleteWhat a cute, simple project! Love that you chose that bold blue.
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteIt starts to look homey and cozy. How fun you made a DIY art piece. Turn out good. If I go with yellow, I may choose black letters so they stand out but blue and white look nice too. More home projects please. I am in a process to update my home decor too.
ReplyDeletei was thinking about doing black letters but opted not to in the end. and yes! i'm looking for more home projects. i'd love to share. if you do some please share too!
DeleteI like it! &....I actually kinda like that green marble touch to the fireplace. It looks WAY better than ours, that's for sure. Resurfacing our fireplace has been on our list for sometime now, haha.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I like that you're using those birthday hats as decoration too :) super cute.
thanks! and yes! those birthday party hats :)
DeleteThat mantle will get so much action during the holidays :) The blue actually adds the perfect pop of bold color.
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
i am so not looking forward to fall and winter (daylight savings mostly) but i really can't wait to spend the holidays in this new space. :)
DeleteI like it though! It's a real eyecatcher!
ReplyDeleteoh thank goodness. thanks so much!
DeleteI like the bold color choice, especially on your mantle. We recently got a lot of frames for our prints in the home. We've had them forever but never took the time or the effort to get them framed. We did it ourselves of course but choosing the "right" frames and format for hanging is such a process. I never feel it looks "right" either so there's also that issue. =) haha

i know what you mean about getting frames and finally hanging things up. it took me forever to make a gallery wall.. and now i'm planning on picking out some old family photos and finding similarly old frames for them.. i have no idea when that project will be done but i'm looking forward to the finishing result.
DeleteThis is super cute and actually looks super easy. I think this would be a great frugal way for me to decorate my apartment. Good lookin' out Jane :)
ReplyDeleteit is super economical. that's what i like about diy's. investing in some things in the beginning can be a little costly, but once you get the paint and brushes, etc. it's easy to continue to do diys for the home. :)
DeleteAh I think it is lovely sweet friend! Wishing you a rocking day!! Nicole xoxo
ReplyDeletethanks nicole!
DeleteI like it. The blue is very bold, and perhaps yellow would have been equally so, but blue is supposedly more calming and easy on the eyes! :)
ReplyDeleteso true. that is actually why i went with the blue, to have the calming effect because i needed that in my life :)
DeleteLovely. How nice to have a mantle to display it. ;)
ReplyDeleteCool! :D
ReplyDeletethank you!
Deletenice idea, & I think blue looks great :)
ReplyDeletei think the blue is slowly growing on me. i'm thankful for everyone's comments for making me do a double take!
DeleteBlue is my favorite color, so I love it! We have a contemporary home with a mantle-less fireplace, so we use 3M command hooks during the holiday season. :)
ReplyDeletewe've been seeing commercials for 3m! do they really work? i am currently working on another photo project with old family photos to make into a gallery wall and my husband is cringing at the thought of putting holes in the wall.. he hates it.. so he wants to try 3m :)
DeleteI think the pop of colour looks good on the mantle and how awesome you have a mantle!! I can already see how festive it's going to become :)
ReplyDeletei can't wait until the holidays :)
DeleteThat is a vibrant shade of blue. Yet somehow, it is still inviting and relaxing. Perfect really xx
ReplyDeletethanks yasumi :)
Deletethat vibrant blue is just beautiful - you did such a great job with this! x
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be beautiful for the holidays Jane! :D
ReplyDeleteI love how vibrant is the color, and I like the letters more in white, so a contrasty color was definitely needed :) A mantel is something I would love in our home, that and window sills, hahaha, I feel blessed and grateful of our home but I love to dream about future home improvements as well ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it, I think the color is perfect. It matches those flowers really well too :]
ReplyDeleteRegardless of colour, you did MUCH better than I could have done. Under my uncrafty eye, the carpet would have ended up blue and something would be spelled wrong
