Actually we used two big plastic bags to gather all our apples that came in delicious reds, greens and yellows, and it wasn't the wind made the apples fall, it was Yangkyu and his apple picking stick, or what I like to call an oversized lacrosse stick. I heard Yangkyu say "sorry! sorry!" and I realized he was apologizing to the apples that fell. Heh.
On Sunday we headed over to Stribling Orchard in Markham, VA, with a few acquaintances for some apple picking time. We're all still getting to know each other so I didn't stealthily move around to get candid photos of them and all of us together -- perhaps when we're a bit closer? I feel like I'm always doing an awkward dance with people I'm just getting to know because I'm afraid I'll do something they don't like {like taking pictures and posting them on the blog}. But it's a good dance - I don't think I ever felt this comfortable meeting new folks. They are also dog lovers so that's a huge plus too.
But unfortunately the doggies didn't join us for this outing since they weren't allowed - although we did see some people bring their furry friends along. I made sure though that Piri knew we brought home his favorite fruit and shared some pieces with him yesterday. He can't have a lot of apples now and so maybe I was compensating for him. I ate so many since we brought these apples home with us that I may just turn into an apple. In fact, by the time you are reading this I may have grown a stem and a green leaf on top of my head.
Each year I always say I'll make something - a pie or preserves - but that never pans out. But perhaps this time around I'll try a hand at baking some apple pie. Really. Hopefully. Maybe?

What a great weekend for apple picking, right? I went to Homestead for the first time and am re-reading your post from 2013. What a great little contraption they gave you for apple picking. You're wearing such a cute outfit. I don't post others' photos on the blog ever, unless I get permission.
ReplyDeleteyes! it was a beautiful weekend! so glad you swung by homestead. i missed that place! perhaps we'll get to go again next time!
DeleteI always INTEND on going apple picking, but then I just end up cheating by buying bags of apples at the farmers market :-) I bet Piri loved all the loot you guys brought back from this fun outing!
ReplyDeletethe ones from the farmers markets are just as good and yummy!
DeleteSounds like a lot of fun! I have done some apple picking when I was little with my aunty but would to try again in my adult life, I imagine I would enjoy it very much! Are you a full-fledged apple yet?! ;-)

DeleteYou look so cute with your knitted hat, plaid, and overalls! :) & that is very neat that you're spending time with other dog lovers!
ReplyDeletethanks! oh yes - i think this is the first time really that i've gotten to know dog owners who are just chill and understanding. i was always so worried about piri doing something annoying but these folks are so super understanding.

DeleteJane, I wish I was out there picking apples with you guys. That apple orchard is gorgeous! I would be baking pies, dipping them in caramel and of course cutting them up and eating them. HAHAHA Glad you guys had a great time.

hehe! the orchard was really pretty. just really tall tall trees and apples everywhere!
DeleteI've never been apple picking before but it looks like a lot of fun! I totally understand about taking photos with people. I only feel comfortable taking photos with or of people if we're super, super close or I'm working on a photo shoot (which then it's completely acceptable since they want ME to take a photo of them haha). Other than that, I don't post too many photos of people on my blog because I'm not sure if they're comfortable with it.
ReplyDeleteBack to the apples, I wish there is an apple orchard where I live!
i have had so many people react in a nasty way - i think they just could've said that they don't prefer to have their picture taken - after that experience many many years ago i always ask if i can take a picture.. but by then i met some really chill folks who thought i was too careful for always asking things that were not a big deal. it's always so tricky when it comes to people :)
DeleteThe picture in this post are so beautiful, ah, i'm envious, no apple growing or picking the Caribbean lol Thank you for letting me live through your experience! :D
ReplyDeletewow nice! with that amount of apples, there's so many things you could do with it. =D
ReplyDeleteyes! i'm looking forward to the possibilities!

Deletei really enjoy reading this story that you told us and looking at your pictures. i laughed when i read the first paragraph - how Yangkyu said sorry to the falling apples. haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect way to spend a fall weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis looks SO FUN and you look amazing in overalls! Also I think if I picked apples this beautiful I would eat them all before I got around to baking them into something haha.
