Lately, Piri has been feeling under the weather. Most of you know his recent diagnosis of kidney disease. We also recently found out that he has high blood pressure for which he started taking medication. Along with all this he has had an upset stomach.
I have been taking newspaper outside with me so the clean up would be easier but then one time Yangkyu began making something with the newspaper - something I would later coin "the poop catcher." And it has evolved. First he began making it like how you would begin making a paper airplane. It had a pointy end and instead of folding to make the wings of an airplane, he would just let those sides be and instead use them as a handle. Then he began to round the edges, which made it look like a newspaper basket. The great thing about this upgraded version was that it had a single handle and you didn't need two hands to hold it.
During the first few nights when Piri was asking to go out at 2, 3, 4 am, Yangkyu and I found ourselves plopped on the bed wondering how we were going to get through the day with the sporadic sleep we were getting. Before trying to go back to sleep for the third time, I commented how his "poop catcher" was the greatest DIY ever. A few silent seconds later he replied "now all we need is that helmet." It took me a split second to get what he was referring to and once I did I just burst out laughing. We so do need one of those helmets with the flashlight embedded on it because going outside in complete darkness, doing the duck walk to follow your dog around in the backyard to try and catch his poop with a flashlight app and plastic bags under your armpit isn't as easy as you think. That helmet would free up a much needed hand.
I appreciated this little comic relief in what otherwise has been a stressful and frustrating time. Piri is doing a bit better but still isn't back on his regular diet. We're back at the vet's office on Saturday for some re-checks. Hopefully we'll get through these bumps in the road soon. Thanks so much for all your kind words for Piri! And thank you Cindy so so much for your care package! Hearts all around that one. <3
