the sugar plum fairy, snowflakes and dreamy waltzes

on saturday, we went to see the nutcracker performed by ballet west at the kennedy center. it was magical. we've never seen a live ballet performance before or been to the kennedy center so it was exciting in so many ways.

i do have to admit, about an hour before we left our apartment, yangkyu wiki-ed the nutcracker to get to know the storyline and tchaikovsky and bit more. well 15 minutes into his "mini-research" i saw him passed out snoring! i was afraid that was pretty much what he was going to be like during the entire performance, but he ended up enjoying it! we both had the spanish dance in our heads the entire day today.

before the show, we spent some time out on the terrace. we were pretty stoked the weather's been so nice lately in dc. it's december and we didn't need coats! how crazy is that?!

i have a fondness for blurry, vintage-y pictures. yangkyu doesn't get them. he only loves crisp, sharp pictures. i like them too, but a mix of blur is alway nice, no?

well, i guess it'll be weird if we agreed on everything.

maybe he just missed the memo on what kind of blurry shots i like. i looked at this picture and couldn't stop laughing. sigh.

and what would it be without a little souvenir. our tree has two new additions, the nutcracker and ballet shoes ornaments.

happy holidays!

xoxo,
jane

  3. My aunt took me to see the Nutcracker when I was like 11 or 12 and I slept through most of it! Now I'd really love to go though.

  7. Great souvenirs! I have never seen the Nutcracker either, though I know the story. And your struggles with each other about blurry pictures made me giggle, haha! :)

  10. Oh, so fun! Dance is so near and dear to my heart, because I performed with a modern dance company for a few years, but somehow, I don't think I've ever seen the nutcracker live. Such cute ornament keepsakes you got while you were there. I love finding special things like that to add to my tree.
