today's monday is shaping up to be a really great one. i have a to-do list a mile long but i'm determined to plow through them. i feel especially good on mondays when we're just coming off of a fun, productive weekend.
i think we're slowly creating a ritual - saturday afternoons are spent at the dog park and then hiking on sundays. yangkyu's dad was really into hiking so i think his love for it has rubbed off on yangkyu.
we hiked a medium/hard trail at bull run mountain and it was all fine and dandy until i heard the bugs. wow. there were a lot of them. at one point they were literally falling from the sky and i was so scared that they would land on me and go down my shirt or latch on to my hair {i don't do well with bugs}. but once we made it on top of the overlook area, on top of the mountain, it was totally worth it. there was also this beautiful railroad track right before the hiking trail and i regretted slightly that i didn't bring my nice camera {i'm a sucker for when it comes to these kinds of sites}.
afterwards we stopped by whole foods market because i was hoping to pick up some poppies {one of my favorites} for our flowers for the week but instead saw my other favorites, peonies, {first of the season!} and knew immediately to bring them home.
then yangkyu did the sweetest thing - he gave me the bouquet and said happy mother's day to me and i laughed. i know some people don't like it when dogs are referred to as babies. i don't really have an opinion on it - sometimes i'll say i'm piri's mama and other times i'm the "human girl" in his life - but one thing i'm sure of is that he's the first dog that really taught me about real responsibilities and putting him before me. there were the 5 am walks when he first came to live with me {he was nervous which made me him go at odd hours}, consoling him at the vet's office as he trembled in my arms, catching his barf and cleaning up his diarrhea off of the carpet and making sure that he socialized well and was in general happy. thinking of how me and yangkyu adjusted so that piri can be an integral part of our lives made me realize even more how i can't wait to be a bigger family. so i said "thank you" for the bouquets and we all ended our sunday watching one of the most prettiest sunsets we ever did see.
hope your weekend was a good one as well. and here's to an even better week!

That's so sweet, he gave you flowers for Mother's Day!! You may not have given birth (can you imagine if we could give birth to dogs and things, haha. Would be interesting) But, you love your sweet dog the same as a Mother loves her human baby and I have seen babies & toddlers and the behaviour is not always so far off, haha!! I think it's very special, I adore peonies, my favourites along with lilies :) I am glad you had a wonderful weekend xxx
ReplyDeleteaww thank you kizzy for your sweet words! xx
DeletePeonies make me so happy! :)
ReplyDeleteagreed!
DeleteHello Jane,
ReplyDeletePeonies are amongst our favourite flowers. Their exuberance is so wonderful, they really do herald the fact that summer is on its way. Yours look absolutely delightful, an amazing bunch of deliciousness. What a very sweet gift to have been given.
A friend of ours dries Peonies with the most amazing results. They last for a very long time and dry to wonderfully antique looking shades. An idea......
wow. i never knew you could dry them. i am definitely going to have to check that out. thanks for the tip!
DeleteLove that second photo! Ah, the bugs sound scary. I am the same way. When a friend was visiting I made a fool of myself by having a *mild* panic attack when we saw some very disturbing critters on the sidewalk. We've started hiking more too, I love it if the end promises a beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! i think i would've had a full blown panic attack! and i always seem to spot out the teeniest tiniest bugs from a mile away!
DeleteDog moms totally count!! I've been impatiently looking around for pretty peonies the past few days - can't wait until I get my hands on some!
ReplyDeletehigh five gloria!
DeleteGorgeous peonies. You are a wonderful mama/best friend to Piri. So sweet of your husband.
ReplyDeletethank you nelah!!
DeleteLove your pink peonies! I'm so excited that peonies are starting to pop up- I will have to see if I can find some near me! I had a pretty quiet, relaxing weekend- it was nice :)
ReplyDeleteso good to hear! and the weather is getting so summery!
DeleteYangkyu is so sweet! My hubby does the "Here's a mother's day gift from Louie" thing too. His dad used to do the same for his mom when their pet was still alive, so I think it comes naturally to him. I, on the other hand, tend to forget to do that for him for Father's Day so I have to remember to do it this year!
ReplyDeleteawww so so sweet! your husband is definitely a keeper!
DeleteOur kids always call our dog their furry brother, and he is so much a part of our life, so yes, I think Mother's Day is for pet owners, too!!! What a great weekend (except for the bug part)!
ReplyDeleteaww that is so so sweet :)
DeleteHa that is pretty funny! Mother's Day for your pup, but hey it is all good. Love the pix and I love peonies. Just got 2 books on photography and can not wait to start playing aroundd.

DeleteI think it's sweet. And you take very good care of Piri, better care that some parents take of their kids.
ReplyDelete:) thank you~~
DeleteNice choice of flowers.
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteYour weekend routine sounds very calm and it's a great way to spend it in the outdoors. And mommies to furry friends are mommies too :). Definitely they come with lots of responsibility!!! And infants and puppies aren't all that different :).
ReplyDeleteaww thank you lisa! :)
DeleteThey are beautiful! My boyfriend brought flowers to my mom, aunt and grandmother yesterday and I asked where mine are because I am the mother of his cat. He ignored me.
ReplyDeleteawwww so cute and funny!!
Deleteoh so sweet! glad to hear your weekend was special!
ReplyDeletethank you~~
Deletethank you!
Deleteawwww Jane, this was the cutest. i like that you guys do what you LOVE and ENJOY. that's what is important in life. i would've been scared of bugs too. hahaha your husband made the sweetest gesture. i love peonies. you are truly blessed doll.

thank you kim!
DeleteSuch a charming story :]
ReplyDeleteThe railroad sight is really nice, but you know what? The best camera is the one you have with you! :]
that is true! :)
DeleteSuch gorgeous flowers!!! I love that you're developing a weekend ritual... I wish we could find one! xoxo
ReplyDeletethank you!
Deletethis made me so happy - you are a wonderful mother to Piri! and those peonies - they are just beautiful. x

yes! i love how fluffy and soft they are!
DeleteSTUNNING flowers and photos of said flowers! Also I hate bugs...like I despise them being around me at all, which is basically the only thing that makes me hesitant of moving east. There is a delightful lack of bugs (for the most part) here in SoCal. Alsooo being a dog mom definitely counts. Owning a pet takes so much responsibility and dedication and selfless love...and it was so precious of Yangkyu to recognize that for you :]
ReplyDeletereally??? not a lot of bugs in socal?? that sounds like heaven to me! :)
DeleteLove the flower and what a sweet story :3
ReplyDeleteI hate bugs too, especially when it flies!
thank you! omg - when they fly that's the worst. oh and when they fly and hit the floor and make that utterly horrible flapping sound with their wings. ugh ugh ugh.
DeleteThose flowers are so pretty! And the this was such a sweet read. I'm sure that Piri thinks you're his mama :)
ReplyDeletePeonies! how pretty!! Ben always refers to me with Gremlin as his Mum - in honesty it weirded me out at first but now I think it's really sweet. Sometimes we get too caught up in semantics but when it comes down to it, it's just one creature loving another living thing :)
ReplyDeleteLove that train track - I'm also a sucker for shots like that!
yes you said it perfectly! one creature loving another living thing! love that!
DeletePeonies are my favorite! How sweet of yangkyu! I can't wait for farmer's market season to ramp up so I can buy some.
ReplyDeletethey are really the best places to buy flowers! i used to buy my poppies there!
DeleteBeautiful flowers. I bet your home is always decorated with fresh flowers :)
ReplyDeleteYangkyu was very sweet for giving you a bouquet on behalf of Piri. I think I need to send DK over to your blog to take a few notes.
heehee - we try to :) haha dk is such a good guy!
DeleteHiking is one of my favourite things to do. We don't have any trails or mountains/hills near so I do it far too little. But I've been planning a little trip so I'm very much looking forward to hike to my hearts content! ;) And the peonies are wonderful, makes me want to buy some too!
ReplyDeleteoh! hope you get to hike often during your trip!
DeleteSuch a beautiful post. I find your stories and photos so relaxing. I love the idea of doing regular hikes on the weekends. This is something I try to do as well, but do not always succeed.
ReplyDeleteHere's to all the fur baby mommas - I know what that's like :)
