the weekend was all sorts of good. the weather was incredible, we saw the tiniest of buds sprouting from our container garden, i finally learned how to do a fishtail braid, made the sweetest and yummiest pancakes for breakfast {recipe here} and finally tried out this chicken tikka masala recipe i've been meaning to whip up for a while.
on saturday we also got to swing by our favorite dog park in reston and hung out with a westie, a couple of chihuahuas and an australian sheepdog. and when i say "we" i mean me and yangkyu because piri was too busy dog-watching from the bench. ha. i think he wanted to hang out with the big dogs over on the other side of the fence. oh well.
and while yangkyu had some work to do over the weekend, we still made time on sunday to head over to old lucketts store where i crushed on so many things. floor after floor, room after room, i wished i could take home a whole bunch of treasures, but i restrained myself and decided to take home a vintage camera, an old painter's ladder {i have been looking high and low for one and came across one at lucketts that was so charming} and an old wooden crate for my bottle collection. i'll sure be going back to this little gem of a place in leesburg in the months to come {i also fell in love with every creak from their hardwood floors. love. love. love. and their children's section tugged at my heart strings a tad bit.}
hope your weekend was delightful!
today is may 5th, which is designated as children's day in korea. this was hands down my favorite holiday next to christmas. i have snippets of memories of getting presents and going to amusement parks with my parents and eating my favorite, cold buckwheat noodles and ice cream. and since we're all sort of kids at heart, i think i'll grab some ice cream with sprinkles and peanuts on top.
have a wonderful week!
// ta da. the painter's ladder we picked up. i wrapped some christmas lights around it and gave some things a new home on top the steps. i have plans on sanding this down and giving it a fresh coat of white paint, but i want to enjoy the old splatter of paints for a few more months. this is now my favorite corner of our little pad. //
ps - i have been keeping mum online about the recent sewol south korean ferry tragedy. instead i was keeping the victims, their family members and everyone in korea in my thoughts offline, in private. i thought to mention it today in light of saying how may 5th, children's day, marked one of the fondest holidays i had as a child growing up in korea. many of the victims of the sewol ferry tragedy included high school students and also children. i am hoping that the families will find peace in this tragic and heartbreaking incident and that the nation can move forward together putting its people, their concerns and safety first. #prayforsewol #prayforkorea

Hello Jane:
ReplyDeleteWell, you certainly have enjoyed a very varied and eclectic weekend as your wonderful images show. The painter's step ladder is great fun and we rather hope that you might get used to it as it is rather than repaint it. But then we do like things to look a little distressed which we then call 'Shabby Chic' to elevate them.
We totally understand what you say here about your thoughts on the most terrible tragedy in Souh Korea of the sunk ferry. All of our thoughts and prayers must be with the victims, their families and those who must take responsibility for this appalling accident.
perhaps i will keep the ladder as is! i've been looking for a painting project and thought maybe the ladder could be it! but i do love the old paint splatters :)
DeleteAwww, it looks like you had a wonderful weekend. The weather here was glorious as well. My thoughts are also with the families of the ferry accident in S. Korea and my heart goes out to all of them
ReplyDeleteyay for glorious weathers!
DeleteThat was heart-breaking...what happened in that ferry:(
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, glad to read u had good weekend:)
thanks emmy!
DeleteYour weekend sounded like bliss doll!! The ferry accident is really sad...I've been keeping them in my thoughts and heart. I hope the families are able to find some light after all this darkness. Such happy pictures, I do love your dog :) xx
ReplyDeletexx thank you~~
Deleteyou seem to always have the best weekend ever! i love how you make the best of it. also, i love that ladder. i think i should have one. one day when i finally settled somewhere permanently
ReplyDeletehope you'll be able to have a ladder of yours one day!
Deletejane, you had a super-fabulous weekend doll! i was following you on instagram. your fishtail braid turned out so cute and a weekend with pancakes is awesome in my book. glad you three were able to get out and enjoy the weather. i love your red sandals and that picket fence is just too cute. the ferry tragedy was so sad. i can't even imagine how the parents feel. to lose a child is horrible. just as over there, safety is often passed over here. safety is important and companies always seem to disregard it and think of it as a waste of time. i know, because i'm in environmental and it gets treated the same way. it's sad when you have a tragedy, but even sadder when you know it could've been prevented. wishing you a wonderful week.

DeleteSounds like you had an amazing weekend! Such cute pictures too.
ReplyDeleteThe ferry accident was such a terrible tragedy :( I can't imagine how the families would be feeling.
thanks jane :)
DeleteLove the photos from the dog park! Thank you for also sharing your fond memories of childhood-- and your thoughts on the tragedy are important, even if you want to keep much of it private.

Deletelooks like you had a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteit was a good one!
DeleteThat vintage camera is so cute! I have one very similar to it since I collect vintage Kodak Brownie cameras.
ReplyDeleteThe Sewol ferry accident was truly heartbreaking and then the Seoul train accident happened too :( Hoping that this will bring about stricter safety regulations throughout and that the mourning families and nation finds a way to move on.

that's so cool that you collect kodak brownie cameras! there were so many vintage cameras to choose from and i chose this one. i can't wait to start adding more to our collection.
DeleteSounds like a great weekend and i love how you are using that ladder. (I am definitely very saddened by the tragedy in Korea, especially since it involved children who were merely following orders from a captain. prayers for their family indeed)
ReplyDeletethanks lisa!
DeleteI always love seeing snippets of your weekend! You learned how to do a fishtail braid? I'm impressed! That's something that I still can't quite figure out.
ReplyDeleteThat's so terrible what happened in Korea. Keeping them in my thoughts as well.
i had no idea and kept putting off learning it because it looked so hard but it's a cinch!
DeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing what you got up to in the weekend - what fun!
It looks like all the dogs had a great time at the park and I enjoyed seeing your treasures you came home with.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families, the ferry disaster was such a tragedy.
thank you!

i love the hells kitchen area! sounds like you had a lovely weekend!
Deletelove the ladder! amazing pics full of color!
ReplyDeletethank you!
Deleteoh i didn't realise that it was kids' day in Korea too - in Japan it's a kids/boys day (girls day is March 3rd, do you have that too?). we are all children at heart in one way or another though, so of course you should have sprinkles and celebrate! x
ReplyDeletei don't think korea has a separate day for boys and girls but i definitely heard of girl's day in japan! i think it's such a sweet sweet holiday!
DeleteYour weekend would be my perfect weekend with Scott! But he's not a vintage treasure hunter- he's a homebody, and a serious one at that. I am crushing on your ladder setup, especially the vintage cameras! I wanted to start collecting them, but am torn between collecting old treasures and downsizing and getting rid of junk! -Jess L
ReplyDeletei know what you mean! we purged our house of lots of things but now i'm a bit more mindful of what i have as decorations and collections! took me a while to get it but so glad i finally did! :)
DeleteAw, your shoes!!! And seriously, keep the warm weather coming!!

DeleteIt seem like you guys had a lovely weekend! I love the painter's ladder you bought, and I still can't fishtail :(
ReplyDeleteYesterday was children's day, but the atmosphere felt a bit heavier than before. Our hearts are still with the victims and their families.
thanks! must've been a somber day.. my heart goes out as well.. xx
DeleteOh love that ladder and camera, I hope you share your film outcomes with us (if it isn't just a decorative piece - a pretty decoration though!) Definitely going to bookmark that chicken tikka masala and your fish braid is so super cute :) My heart goes out to Korea too xoxo Makes you want to hug everyone you love a little bit closer.
ReplyDeleteah unfortunately the camera is only for decoration purpose! it's not in working condition. i am looking for a nice vintage canon film camera that works. i want to try it out but i don't think i'm quiet ready to purchase it just yet. but definitely one day!
DeleteSo many amazing finds! Love the camera, and the ladder with the cactus on top! :) Giving my best wishes to Korea, my heart goes to the victims and families, when I saw the news I couldn't believe it, so sad to learn of this type of tragedies.
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed your snapshots! and those cute pictures of piri :-)
