We're spending the weekend in Virginia Beach. It was planned over a month ago and we've been counting down the days. I think we're getting pretty good at patiently waiting and counting down days {first the house then our Korea/Japan trip, which no longer will happen but we still counted.. and waited}. We wanted to get away for our 5 year wedding anniversary, but also be with Piri at the same time and so we settled on a dog-friendly place that still required 4+ hours of driving so that it would feel like a long distance get away.
Unfortunately forecast says rain for Saturday. But I guess it's ok. As long as I am with Yangkyu and Piri, even if it's inside our hotel room, I know it'll still be a wonderful anniversary. I was telling this to Yangkyu and he chuckled and said he always appreciates my appreciation for all things low-key. Well, I appreciate him appreciating my love for the low-key. They are really kind of the best. Especially for introverts. Ha.
I took time a couple of days ago to make some more friendship bracelets {I know I'm too old for these but I just love the colors} and other types of bracelets {ok, some of them are really not bracelets but just leather cords and wraps that I added beady things to}. I think they're just right for the beach.
Among my many conversations with Yangkyu includes this - I think Piri looks like a desert fox. A floppy eared one. Maybe I just have a weird imagination.
Anyway, we started something exciting a few days ago. We became part of a network of people who offer doggy daycare and overnight boarding in our own homes. It's a personal way of making sure your dog is cared for while you are away. I love dogs {in case you didn't pick that up yet from the blog} and this is just a wonderful opportunity for me, Piri and Yangkyu. We're hoping for many kind clients and fun times ahead.
I went a little overboard at Michaels yesterday and bought myself a ton of colorful yarn. Why? Because I'm going to really teach myself how to crochet. I have been in love with granny square blankets and so I'm going to make myself one. Or at least try to. Thank goodness for Youtube and helpful tutorials. I learned how to crochet a long time ago from a friend but never really pushed myself to learn the terminology. I also never learned the different types of stitches and for many years I have tried to finish a scarf {using a simple stitch, which I have no idea the name is - yes, I am this bad} and have always managed to fail year in and year out. I still owe Yangkyu a scarf from like 7 years ago. But this time I'm determined. But forget the scarf for now. We're going to get a pretty blanket! And if there is a crochet deity out there, may she help me and guide me along the way because I'm really going to need it.
What are you all up to lately? I hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with something fun and something sweet.

Piri definitely looks like a fennec fox. And you're never too old for anything, especially not friendship bracelets. :) Good luck learning how to crochet; it's not as hard as it looks! If you can find someone who knows how to crochet and learn from them in person, that's the best way, because I feel like it's too easy to lose where the yarn goes in those 2D Youtube videos.
ReplyDelete:) i'm glad you think that way too re: fennec fox! i began to crochet and it's been coming along. i surprised myself!
DeleteHave fun with your crochet project, those yarns sure are colorful and fun. I can knit but crochet is too complicated for me so i never really try. Hope the rain will magically disappear for you when you head out to the beach :)
ReplyDeletein the past even youtube tutorials couldn't help my sorry behind in learning crocheting. the terminology always confused me. chain what? stitch how? but i started crocheting a few days ago and my granny squares are coming out! i'm surprising myself :) my stitches are a little sloppy still but i'm just happy that i can use different colors and get a pattern going!
Deletei am new to crochet (teaching myself) and recently made my first baby blanket. i then tried my first ripple blanket, just sure i couldn't do it, and loved it! i quickly made a second ripple blanket. i am now working on a large ripple blanket for myself in grays, pinks and white on down time but doing a granny square blanket for my sister for christmas which i hope to finish this weekend.
ReplyDeleteand i have already found out.....you can NEVER have enough yarn!!!!!!!!! it has quickly become an obsession!
oh wow! baby blanket sounds so lovely! all your blankets sound amazing! i hope crochet as many blankets as i can! :)
DeleteHope you have an amazing weekend, even if it does rain :) Looking forward to seeing what you make with crotchet-ing!
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteThe dog sitting/boarding idea is so perfect - I bet Piri would love to have new friends around the house :-) And you guys are so sweet to include him in your anniversary fun - hope you have an awesome weekend!
ReplyDelete:) we're actually dog sitting our first booking right now!
DeleteHope you enjoy your anniversary weekend :) & I think that's really smart that you're going to offer doggy daycare and overnight boarding. That way, you can kind of test the waters and see how it would be like to care for multiple pets if you ever decide to get a friend for Piri. BTW, I always share this link to my friends that are interested in learning how to crochet before they gather at my house for "crochet night"! Hope it helps you: http://www.craftyminx.com/crochet-school/

DeleteSounds like a nice relaxing weekend, as long as you're together, it'll be fun, rain or shine.
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you mentioned crocheting. I started on a scarf many, many years ago and never finished. I also recently picked up some yarn to try it again. I'm not sure if I'll finish this time either though. I get distracted too easily and have noticed my stitches are off again, lol!
Have a lovely weekend Jane.
thanks jane! i just started on my granny squares and they are coming along! i can't wait to make a bajillion more squares to finalize the blanket :)
DeleteRain won't ruin your fun! Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteHappy anniversary! I'm sure it will be a great time. I love those beads. Friendship bracelets are one of my very favorite things to make because of all the colors. I love that yarn too - I've been crocheting for years but have still not made the epic granny afghan that I've always wanted to... I need more patience!
ReplyDeleteyour crocheting projects are so lovely. i hope to have clean and pretty stitches like you. i started on my granny squares and my stitches are so sloppy! aye. but i'm surprising myself that i can actually use different color yarn and get a pattern going as well!

ReplyDeleteyay! thanks for that! i needed to hear it!! :) my crocheting try this time around is going surprisingly well. my stitches are still a little sloppy but i popped out five granny squares already!
DeleteHow fun does that sound signing up for watching pups! That is an outstanding idea!!! And YAY for the yarn! I have been taking crochet classes at our local craft store and it has been very helpful as making a granny square blanket is a goal of mine too!!! Keep us posted on how it all is going! Happy weekend to you both...hope you have a lovely celebration! Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteit's definitely a fun adventure. we're dog sitting our first pup right now! :) i hope to share the progress on the granny square on the blog. it'll be a bit embarrassing since my stitches are so sloppy! i hope i can get it done by .. errr. end of the year? ha.
DeleteWe have a "doggy day care" thing here as well and my husband and I have been discussing doing it when we move to a bigger house! The one we want focuses more on 1 breed to dog - the husky - which are the ones we love so much. I would love to re-learn how to crochet! It has been a while. I love your blog. - Stephanie
ReplyDeleteoh how neat! i hope you'll get to your bigger house soon! we're dog sitting our first "client" now! :)
Deletei do hope the weather held for you but i guess it doesn't matter if you're happy with being inside with the crew. that makes it all the better. i tried to knit once but couldn't get the hang of it, hollie tried her best on me. we were in london for a few days, i had some meetings and we hung out together at the hotel and around some galleries. i'll post about it this week.
