Photo boards


I'm beginning a little collection of photo boards to use as backdrops. The first two boards I made were made using panel boards but they ended up curving after being put together and painted and stained on. The Dark Walnut stain also didn't turn out too well and so I just use the white board -- seen here -- every so often. 

A few days ago I picked up some sample paint and a 24 x 24 wood board to create more photo boards. I used Behr Cozumel and Behr Yellow Flash and painted them on either side. I love the color yellow but I'm not sure how I feel about this result. I love how the Cozumel turned out though. 

When we first bought our house, I noticed how much natural light it had and it got me all excited about the possible photo opportunities. But once we moved in I realized that there were also a lot of shadowy dark spots which makes taking pictures a little tricky. But I'm determined to make a little photo studio in the home just to make my photography experience a little different and more fun this year. I just ordered some seamless photo paper on Amazon and while I have a spot already picked up to mount it on, we'll have to see once it arrives. My fickle personality may change its mind {as it often does}.

    You are so lucky you get a lot of natural light! I have the worst lighting at home :(

    I love this idea! You've picked the most loveliest of colours and textures too.

    I use bits of salvaged wrapping paper that I have ironed out to use as back drops......I feel rather silly admitting to that now.

    This is such a brilliant idea! Look at you, you're having a little photography studio in your home :) I bet you can start a side business & start on pet photography, especially with your DogVacay guests!

      i do have to admit that i get happy when clients like the photos of their dogs so much that they ask for high res files :)

    I love the two photos above, Jane. And no...unfortunately, the way our house faces the light....there really are no spots with great lighting....sigh....

    These look stunning Jane. Despite having lots of full glass windows and light during the day, I still have shadows whenever I play with my camera. The perfect spot is always right next to the window.

    I would love to incorporate one if I could. Unfortunately, I live in an apt and seeing that space can be limited quickly, we don't have a nook for that use. Love what you're creating here!

    These photos are so gorgeous! My boyfriend has been trying to get on that buying wood and painting it kind of deal for indoor photography. He actually wants to make a chalkboard one that we would use to put our plates on when we take photos of his dishes. Such an amazing idea. Thank you for sharing!

    When we were looking for houses there were a few important factors but after those essentials it was "does this house have light" ha ha ha. I also picked the room with the best light even though it soaks in the sun all day and becomes the hottest part of the house - sacrificing for our art :)

    I have 100% faith you'll be able to build a cute space and maximise your light- you also have to let us know about the seamless paper (have always wanted to try!) I also never thought to paint board but that's such a good idea, I usually just use different coloured paper (though 99% of the time just white and boring :P)

      i used paper too! but those kept getting wrinkly! i hope i know what i'm doing with seamless paper. kind of scared.. :)

    oh, don't get me started. I've been moving around too much these past years to get a photo studio. doesn't look like that's going to change either. but maybe I should use my stay in Paris to collect at least a few props and tools.xo

      we have moved around quite a bit too. i think we are finally settling and setting roots. but i know what you mean. i held off on making and having a lot of things for the house and for my photography because it wasn't a permanent place. i hope it changes soon.. but first i gotta know what i'm doing first! :)

    These came out great Jane! I use a corner of my dining table as a "photo studio" when I have to. It would be nice to have a dedicated area but that's living in NYC. When it's warm I tote my stuff out to our terrace for shoots.

    I'm loving the colors Jane! It's so tricky with lighting! I always want natural light, but my home gets so much shade. I really have to take photos during a certain time which can be tricky. Plus it's been raining and gloomy. That doesn't help the situation at all. Share your tricks as you go along.

    This is such a nice idea! I have way too little space for this... I'm happy to use my white walls or wooden table when it's sunny out and I'm home during the day. But I love how the yellow and green turned out! So happy and bright! - I mean, I already visit your website for a happy-fix (especially the Piri posts do!) and I love the bright colours you use in your pictures!! x

    You need to fill us in with the seamless paper! I've never tried. We do have some good light on our living room during mornings, but we almost always use the same boring wood table and white table for our pictures ;) I am now inspired to shake things up a little, let's see!
