over the weekend, yangkyu and i headed over to unique on our never ending search for stuff to buy and possibly restore. see, we're fans of nicole curtis of rehab addict. and while we'll probably never go around restoring historic houses to their former state of glory, we thought, why not start restoring smaller pieces for our rental {it's our first time.. i think we'll screw up a lot...} so, channeling nicole curtis and reading this excellent thrifting q & a on erica's caught on a whim blog, we went off.
the place we went to was a little big. well. really big. but i made a beeline for the home furniture section and as soon as i got there, i saw them. really lovely chairs. dining table chairs for $4.99 a piece. and while we're still in search of that perfect farm table-like dining table, i just fell in love with these chairs and had to get them. {seriously people, right now we have my old ikea computer table, a bar stool and a camping chair as our eat in area. so these chairs are like gold to us}. we purposely brought home mismatched ones. i think they're more fun!
it's hard trying to work on these chairs in a rental. but we bought cheap plastic tarp at home depot and so hopefully we won't annoy mr. neighbor downstairs as we work on our balcony. we washed the chairs down with damp cloth and began to sand them down by hand. afterwards we'll give it a new paint job. i said a turquoise/mint, he said yellow. i think we'll go with the yellow. it'll go nicely with a dark farm table of our dreams {i know it's out there!}
and i'm even more stoked to be finally linking up with wendy over at young heart for her tuesday thrifted link up! woot!

Cracking up at the vision of an ikea table, bar stool and camping chair. I hear ya - for a while we were using old chairs of Johns that would break apart when someone would sit in them... We'd try to glue/ staple gun/ nail them back together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up :) and congrats on your chairs! They are definitely an excellent find at a great price. I have a feeling you'll make them look like something out of a magazine!
