as soon as tickets went on sale for a christmas carol at ford's theatre, i was on it {this by the way is where president lincoln was assassinated - the theatre has been renovated twice}. we're trying to make it a thing by going to see christmas-y shows each year, probably switching off between the nutcracker and a christmas carol.
i grew up with this story and saw the performance at madison square garden many years ago. it was nice to see the show with yangkyu this time and laugh at scrooge's "bah humbug" and get a bit spooked out by marley's ghost. the singing was great and the acting magnificent. there is something about being in a smaller sized theatre that gets me. i love hearing every little sound on stage like the occasional creaks and footsteps taken in stride and seeing the set change in dimmed light.
and in the spirit of giving, the theatre has partnered with the covenant house, which works with homeless youth in dc and are collecting donations at the end of each show.
this was such a great way to spend a saturday afternoon.

A christmas carol! I only read it when I was a child (the children book with illustration) but I was always spooked by the ghosts D:
