we kind of have a love affair with magnets around here. stickygrams for sure, but we also collect magnets from places we visit. kinda dorky, i know. another thing we love around here are photos. so when i saw this diy over at photojojo, i had to try it out.
i made a little adjustment because i couldn't find the right kind of clear glass circles at michael's. instead i bought a heavier kind that had more noise. i contemplated on whether i should buy them but in the end i did. i thought the noise would add a nice effect.
from michael's --
1. clear glass circles
2. circular magnets (size .75)
3. metal and glass glue
the photojojo tutorial uses a quarter, but since my glass circles were a bit bigger, i was able to find a korean coin, about the size of a half dollar, to trace with a pen the part of the photo i wanted to make into a magnet.
after cutting out the circle that i traced, i just used a little bit of glue along the edge of the photo. afterwards i stuck it on the flat part of the glass circle {which should be wiped off first!}. then i added a bit of glue on the back of the circular magnet and stuck it on the back of the photo.
i really like the size and weight of the glass. there are some magnets that are a bit flimsy but these didn't turn out like that.
there is a bit {ok, it's kind of terrible. i apologize!} of a glare on the photo below, but these are how the magnets turned out. you'll see there is bit of noise. again, it's because the glass itself had bits stuck inside them. another thing i noticed -- when i stuck these to my fridge, the magnets let out a little reflection. i think it's because of the size of the glass and the circular magnet. i'll just consider it as an added bonus. or gems if you will.
i've been having the diy itch for a while and am glad i got to spend a little time with this super quick & fun one.
ps - there is a winner of our giveaway with harlex! thank you everyone for participating!
